In 2006, 85 year-old Edith Macefield was offered millions to sell her home in Seattle, Wahsington to make way for a new shopping mall, and she refused.

Without Edith's land, the developer had to alter the building's plan so that it would work around the small, two-story home. This is the result.

And if you think her house looks familiar, it’s probably because it looks amazingly similar to – and is probably the inspiration for – the flying house in Pixar's UP.

Sadly, the inspirational Edith Macefield passed away in 2008 at 87 years old. She left the house to Barry Martin, a construction chief at an adjacent building site with whom she formed an unlikely friendship. He helped her out by driving her to doctor appointments and looking after her.

Martin planned to turn the house into a memorial but ended up selling the home to a real estate coaching firm. They eventually lost the home to foreclosure.

In March of 2015, the little house often decorated with balloons, has officially been listed for sale by auction.
